Art Deco–from its start in 1920’s France to worldwide popularity at the start of WWII–represented glamor and sophistication, luxury and technological progress.  It was a partnership of sorts, a celebration even, of the past mingled with the future. You might say it was hope in design. It should come as no surprise then that a popular motif was the sunburst — much like that found in the wings of these swan bookends . . .
